At the University of West Georgia, the pursuit of original research by students and faculty is a central aspect of academic life. Through these research-based initiatives, students and faculty are able to produce first-rate research projects and contribute to a deeper understanding of any discipline.
In February of 2016, the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education upgraded the University of West Georgia's research classification, placing 博彩平台推荐 among a higher class of institutions for its research work comparable to four doctoral universities of the eight in the state.

As an affiliate of the Georgia Council and the National Council on Economic Education, the 博彩平台推荐 CEEFL is recognized as one of twelve centers located across the state focused on improving financial literacy and economic education by helping teachers, students and the surrounding community through workshops, advocacy and grant-funded initiatives. The University of West Georgia’s Center for Economic Education and Financial Literacy is a long-standing collaborative effort between the Richards College of Business and the College of Education.

The Center for Public History researches, documents, preserves, and promotes public discussion of the history and cultural, architectural, and folklife resources of the broader west Georgia region. Drawing on the expertise and talents of university faculty and students through disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborative projects, the Center provides consultation and services in historical research, oral history, folklife fieldwork, architectural survey, exhibit development, and public and community program development for the wider university service region.

The Antonio J. Waring, Jr. Archaeological Laboratory is a research facility dedicated to the scholarly pursuit of knowledge about past cultures within Georgia and nearby areas. The laboratory supports the archaeological research and instructional activities of the faculty in the Department of Anthropology and is a resource for visiting scholars from across the United States. The Waring Laboratory serves as a repository for the university’s research collections, for those from state and federal agencies with responsibilities for archaeological resources management, and for collections resulting from the compliance research projects undertaken by private archaeological firms. The laboratory provides unique learning and directed-research opportunities for students at the University of West Georgia, as well as educational outreach programs within the local community.
Led by Mandi Campbell, the Center for Teaching and Learning’s primary goal is to provide faculty with high-quality professional development and information about innovative techniques, research, and pedagogy so that they can foster engaged learning environments for their students.
Led by Karen Owen, the Murphy Center is a non-partisan, educational, and community-engaged organization at the University of West Georgia that educates and inspires our students and community about real-world politics and promotes civic engagement through programs that are unique, enriching, and open-minded.
To enhance and integrate university and community wellness resources – and develop new ones – the University of West Georgia has named Bridgette Stewart as the institution’s inaugural chief wellness officer (CWO).
